You Are Enough (and So Are Your Students)

You Are Enough (and So Are Your Students)

Whoever you are, you are probably getting messages all the time that you are not enough. You aren't good enough, you aren't smart enough, you aren't pretty enough, you aren't thin enough... Some of these messages might even be coming from your own head.

Well, those messages are wrong. You are enough! You are amazing! To help you prove it to yourself, I need you to think of five amazing things about yourself right now. It might be difficult to get started because most of us are trained to think about what is wrong, but just try.

Did you do it? Did you think of five special qualities? How do you feel? I bet you are smiling. I bet you feel pretty good.

Wouldn't it be nice if someone told you how amazing you are every day? You could feel this way every day. Lucky for you, there is someone who can do this for you. You! (I bet you saw that one coming!)

No matter what is going on in your life, no matter what struggles you are facing, you are enough. You are amazing!

Instead of making lists of all of the things you aren't doing (thanks, Pinterest), start keeping lists of everything you are doing. You will be astonished at how much you are accomplishing every day.

So, now that you realize that you are great just the way you are, it is time to spread that sunshine to your students.

Because you know what? Each one of them is enough too. Each one is amazing.

The student who always comes late to school. Who is never on task? Enough.

The student who is reading below grade level? Enough.

The student who didn't pass the standardized test? Enough.

The student who is trying her best? Enough.

Hopefully you are getting the picture. We are all enough. We are all amazing. Our choices might not always reflect the awesome person we are inside because we are all learning and growing.

The trouble is, people don't often recognize us for the miracles that we are. Most of the time we don't even recognize it in ourselves.

Make your classroom a place where everyone is accepted for who they are and where they are in their journeys. You will be amazed at the outcomes.
