Life Science: The Cell to the Body Independent Lesson

Life Science: The Cell to the Body Independent Lesson

A complete independent lesson on the basic building blocks of the human body. Students learn about the different levels of organization in the human body (or any animal body). Cells, tissues, organs, organ systems, and the human body are all introduced. Special attention is paid to the organelles of the cell. Animal and plant cells are also compared and contrasted.

This lesson is geared towards middle school students, but could be helpful for students in high school as well.

In my opinion, the best part of this lesson is the checklist that allows students to methodically move through the lesson without getting lost on what to do next.

When I use this set in my classroom, I laminate several copies and keep them in separate envelopes along with the consumables the students will need to complete the lesson. This way I can reuse the pages many times and students can check off their progress using an overhead pen. When they are done, they wipe off the checklist and return the set.

This is great as a part of a unit on the human body or systems in science.
